Balance all the real-life stuff

  • If you don’t already have one, prepare a will

  • If anyone depends on your income for their lifestyle (spouse, kids), have adequate life insurance

  • Increase your 401(k) contribution each year

  • Have a plan to save for shorter-term goals (i.e., vacations, home maintenance, and taxes)

  • Research education expenses if you have kids (i.e., trade school, college) – start a savings plan

  • Try to pay off personal or college loans

  • Maximize your retirement savings; meet with a financial advisor if you need help
